The sciatic nerve is, in other words, one of the largest nerves in the body. It starts at the lower back and runs through the butt along the lower limbs down to the foot. This nerve allows for movement, feeling and strength in the legs.
Unfortunately, 40% of the world population suffers from sciatica. Sciatica is a condition that can cause pain, numbness, tingling and weakness in your lower limbs. It is often confused with back pain and leg cramps.
Sciatica first starts with a feeling of pressure or a squeezing pain in your nerve and then spreads the pain to the back and legs.
The pain associated with sciatica creates discomfort and sometimes even leads to people not being able to get out of bed. Therefore, many people start using pain relievers such as ibuprofen or Aleve.

3. Ice Packs
Make your own ice packs. This can easily be made with a packet of frozen peas and a towel. It works wonders when you’re in pain. Apply the ice pack on the area that hurts for at least 20 minutes and the pain will disappear.
4. Different temperatures
Ice packs are a good way to relieve pain. However, the sciatic nerve is located deep in the body and the chill sometimes does not go deep enough to where the inflammation is located. Therefore, it is useful to change temperature. Also try using a hot pack, do this immediately after using an ice pack. Or what is even better is to take a hot bath immediately after an ice pack.
You can stimulate blood circulation and lymph flow through the variation of temperature. This ensures that the deep inflammations will reduce and the healing process will significantly improve. In order to get an even better result, you can add some Epsom salts or essential oils to your bath.
5. Mild yoga exercises
If you’re struggling with sciatica moving is probably the last thing that comes to mind. Yet it is important to be active, otherwise the pain lasts longer. 8. Adequate sleep
Not too unimportant is to get sufficient sleep. If you have enough sleep your body will get time to heal, relax and balance your nerves. Extra sleep and rest can therefore help rebuild and strengthened your nerves.
Although these complementary and alternative resources are not supported by scientific evidence, many people have experienced significant improvements and have managed to control the pain, numbness, and cramps.
